Corbett being the best protected area and with the rich diversity has many options for nature lovers. One can see the forest and its denizens through – elephant, jeep and canter. Walking inside the reserve is not allowed but there are many places where one can go for a nature walk or adventurous people can go for trekking in the surrounding hills. 

Night stay in Forest

It is the best options to feel the nature. There are several government rest houses where tourists can stay. It is a recommended stay for those who does not seeks luxury but want to learn more about wildlife. Night stay gives good opportunity to see wildlife. Bookings can be done in Dhikala, Gairal, Sultan, Sarpduli, Lohachaur, Kanda, Bijrani and Jhirna rest house. In some rest houses facilities like restaurant and electricity is available while few are without electricity and one has to take their own food to cook.

Elephant

It is one of the best options to go close to the animals and explore the forest. Wild animals give good approach if you are on elephant back. The elephant safari is conducted in the reserve forest while forest department elephants are available on first come first serve basis. The duration of elephant safari is one and half to two hours.

Jeep

Jeep safari is another good option to look for wild animals. These 4WD jeep / gypsies are best to negotiate with the rough terrain of forest. In open jeeps one has good chances of animal sightings. There are three different areas where jeep safari is conducted – Bijrani, Jhirna and Lohachaur. The duration of the jeep safari is 3-4 hours. If one wants to increase chances of animal sighting the full day jeep safari is also good option. Morning Jeep safaris can be pre-booked while afternoon are available to the guests on first come first serve basis. The duration of full day jeep safari is 10 hours. Make sure that your camera and binoculars are in your bag with sufficient camera roll and memory cards.

Canter

This is an open bus which goes to Dhikala tourism zone where day visit by private vehicle is not allowed. These canters are run by the Forest Department and seats can be pre-booked. The duration of the canter safari is 6 hours. One can see Ghariyal and mugger through canter safari. This facility is not very comfortable for old age people but a good option to see the Dhikala area.

Long Elephant Safari

Long elephant safari is an option for those who want to know more about the forest and can sit for long on elephant back. It covers some of the untouched areas of Corbett which are not explored by many tourists. This provides good experience and chances of animal sightings. Suggestion is that carry extra battery and storage device for your camera.

Bird Watching

Bird watching around Corbett is one of the main attractions for tourists. With its rich avi-fauna Corbett is a paradise for bird watchers. With many resident and local migratory birds one can also see summer and winter visitor migratory birds in and around Corbett. All you need is a bird book, good pair of binoculars and a local guide who can show you the trails and paths.

Trekking

Though people visit Corbett for wildlife but those who are interested in trekking can also go for it. There are some nice treks around Corbett where one can go and off course encounters with some rare birds and animals along with beautiful view is guaranteed. Don’t forget to pack your pair of trekking shoes.

Angling

Anglers know it better that if there is any fish that anybody wants to catch it is Mahaseer. Mahaseer is also called tiger of the river and is found in good numbers in Ramganga river. Angling is done on catch n release basis and permits can be obtained from the angling beats. Though angling rods are available locally but it is better to carry your own rods and hooks etc.
